2008.05.09 May - Oxford’s Bike Month – 2008
Governor Barbour, Mayor Howorth, and the Lafayette County Board of Supervisors have proclaimed May 2008 to be Bicycle Month. Scheduled events include:
Community Depot Rides - Sundays in May at 3pm
Riders of all skill levels are welcomed on these short rides (less than an hour). Experienced cyclists help the group ride around town, on the Rail/Trail, the bike lanes and/or quiet neighborhood streets.
Bike to Lunch – Wednesday, May 14th
Bike to Lunch encourages people to bicycle rather than drive to local restaurants and businesses. Such activities are designed to promote cycling for commuting; bicycle safety; and camaraderie among cyclists, motorists, and pedestrians. This is the second year for Bike to Lunch event in Oxford.
Participating Restaurants & Retailers include:
- Active Oxford - 20% off helmets & bike locks
- Ajax - free soft drink or tea
- Bottletree Bakery - free muffin
- City Grocery - 10% off all lunch
- Holli's Sweet Tooth - 1/2 price milkshakes

Bike/Walk to Work/School – May 12-16th
Bike/Walk to work activities encourage people to walk or bicycle rather than drive to work and school. Such activities are designed to promote cycling and walking for commuting; bicycle and pedestrian safety; and camaraderie among cyclists, motorists, and pedestrians.
Oxford Cycling will be on the square 7-9am on the 16th, providing refreshments and encouragement to those riding to work or school.
Even if you live too far away, consider parking in a public lot and walking or cycling to work from a short distance.
Give it a try – you might be surprised what you’ll find leaving your car behind.
